April 8, 2008

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

On the spur of the moment after 12 years in the Morrison Road community we have decided to have our first “Birthday Party.”

Saturday: April 19 th at the school from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

On April 15, 2008 the Native American Multi-Cultural Education School (NAMES) will be twelve years old. We are having a Birthday Celebration on Saturday April 19 th. It will be held at the school, located at 3600 Morrison Rd., between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Lunch and door prizes will be provided. Bring a salad or a hot dish if you can. If you can’t bring a gift of food give us the gift of your time. Just drop in to say hi.

Twelve years ago on April 15, 1996, NAMES GED School opened its doors in a church five blocks from our current location on Morrison Rd. Since that eventful week we have had 249 graduates and helped over 1,200 students improve their academic skills.

When we first opened twelve years ago we had two small classrooms: one had no windows and the other had no heat. Yet those students had the vision and the heat from their determined passion to pass the GED. Over the last 12 years our students have carried forward this passion for attaining their education.

It is interesting that all of these students when they made up their minds to go after their education went after it with a determined passion that knew “no” obstacles. These gutsy determined students did not make excuses for themselves; they took responsibility for past mistakes and moved forward on a new path. They maintained their dream or came to a place in their life where they embraced a new dream and needed an education to accomplish it.

Their motto has always been “Education is like an eagle…it gives us flight.”

Come and join us or please call us, just to say hi, if you can’t make it. We want to celebrate our students’ accomplishments.
