At Sapa Dawn Center we empower Indigenous families, especially youth, by promoting education, health and social justice. We strive to acquire, develop and conserve resources to achieve social self-sufficiency for families. Additionally, our goal is to raise awareness od traditional values and culture with regard to families, youth and the environment. SDC/NAIL's on-going events for families and youth include or plan to include the following diverse programming for over 100 youth annually: Salish Language program, sustainable cottage business training, traditionally haravested and smokes salmon, sobriety runs, annual seasonal ceremonies, spiritual encampments and gathering, diverse travel opportunities, weekly sweatlodge ceremonies and feasts, talking circles, beadwork, leatherwork, carving, storytelling, berry picking, native speakers, sports, gathering and drying of natural herbs and medicines, traditional parenting skills, youth mentoring, tracking.survival skills. These provide families and youth with an awareness of their cultural identity, raising self esteem and respect for all creation. |
